I am interested in discovering a neighbourhood through its places of work, too. That is why I would put Taller de Pintura San Marcos, on Ortiz Bilbao, among the spaces I would like to explore. A painting studio makes me curious about what happens before an image is finished.
I would call to ask whether I could learn about its work and arrange a visit. I would bring questions about the process: how a painting begins, which decisions change along the way and when it is considered complete. I would like to hear the answers from someone who practises that craft.
If an activity were open to visitors, I would ask how to take part. My invitation would be to approach with attention and a willingness to learn. Discovering San Marcos could also mean pausing to understand a practice I usually encounter only through its finished work.
